The plant is on my rear covered deck, previously it was out from undercover so as to get good sun, now it is on the North side of the house under cover. I took picture of the leaves.

My basil gets like that in times of excessive moisture. I cut the shrub off and wait for new foliage to appear. Don't know if that's the right thing to do but it is what I do with my container grown basil.

Wayne B E, where in the world is this growing? Basil was finished long ago outdoors here. It needs heat and sun. Maybe yours is just finished for this year? Especially under cover on the N side of your house.

Agree with the previous post. Basil is extremely sensitive to cold temperatures and starts declining once the thermometer hits down into the low 50's, similar to coleus (to which it is closely related). It is also a full sun plant, so would not be at all happy in a north setting under cover.

OK , thanks for the advice and conserns. Yes it is outside, night time temps were getting blow 50*, daytime temps are up in hi-seventies. Will just have to maybe replant it in the spring.

Basil is best considered a summer only annual. Needs that very warm weather and full sun available during the summer months. Seldom even does well indoors for very long for those that wish to bring in for a kitchen window :-)
