for my brother in law
On November 4th, we got word that my brother in law of almost 46 years was admitted to a hospital and had major surgery. Stage 4 (metz'd) colon cancer, with a 3 to 6 month window. Pretty grim. His desire is to go home and sit on his porch for a week and then spend a month at the beach. Obviously, we have no idea how this will all pan out. Sunday morning I could not sleep - up at 2 am and poking over the internet - quilting, of course! It occurred to me that I had several beachy fabrics tucked in drawers around here. Went back to bed, but by noon on Sunday, several fabrics had been washed, ironed and the cut up had started. Having not a guess at a time frame here, I decided to just start cutting and sewing....to see what might happen. My desire was to be something that would evoke a smile, or two or three...and something that might take him on a mental journey to the beach...thru the waters and to the ocean while he heals so that he might make that very journey himself! It's a crazy, wonky, silly beachy quilt...the sewing is far from my best, but it's in the mail and should reach him sometime on Monday or Tuesday. I'm pretty happy with the results, and my hubby was very happy, too, to take this to the post office yesterday!
