Beautiful! What a clever idea to use the tablecloths; I never would have thought of that. I'm not usually a check fan, but really like the subtle pattern and muted color in your room. Your basket on the secretary adds just the perfect touch!

It looks very nice. The curtains are a nice touch without covering the windows too much and blocking sunlight. I like the seating area there also.

I have a similar bay window in my DR. May I ask where you got the rod from and what width are your panels?

Thank you all for your kind words. A while back I asked for some ideas for the curtains and someone suggested tablecloths. I considered doing black and white, but then decided I wanted something more subtle.

The Urbanest Rod is from Amazon. Make sure to check your measurements carefully, Done Again. I checked the center section but didn' pay much attention to the side window dimensions, nor did I make sure that I'd have enough width for the curtains to go past the window moldings. That was a mistake! DH had to add in extension bars to make the sides work. I like the rods, but they are awkward for changing the curtains/rings, and take several people to change them out. They also required longer screws than the ones provided.

Lintex Checked Tablecloths are 60" x 104" and are from Boscov's. (They come in other sizes, as well.) I simply folded over the excess material and pinched along a row of checks. (Can I say that checked fabric is the best ever for pinch clipping? It's like working with giant grid paper, LOL.). If we had hung the rods a little lower, I would have turned the excess fabric toward the inside of the room like a little flounce. We went for more height overall and the "flounce" ended up looking too short and silly, so I flipped them around. I did one full (tablecloth) panel on the far left and right. In the middle, for the inside edges of the smaller windows, I did 1/2 panels. Then the middle window has 2 full panels.

Aww, that's so sweet of you to offer the chair, Roarah. It might not be worth the shipping hassle though. Thanks for the vote for the valance. I can't decide if I like it or not. I'd like it more if I could get the tails to look the same on each side. :-).

It look it looks great. I'm imagining the grandads retiring early to the comfy chairs to snooze after eating too much turkey, making room at the table for the latecomers to sit and eat.

I think you did great with the Lintex Checked Tablecloths from Boscov's. The room looks fabulous! The only difference I would have done, would be another drape where you did the valence.

Laughable, that room is so welcoming! The chairs in the bright bay window look like a great spot to relax with a book. The light fixture, the table and those gorgeous black chairs with it are stunning. Fantastic idea to use the tablecloths for drapes!!!

Thank you all! I'm glad you were able to enjoy our space. : ) The Chandy was new from ebay, and looked like it had leopard spots when it came. Yikes, nothing like the "antique bronze" type description. DH cured that with some spray paint. The chest in the window is from a local yard sale. Yes, we sit in these little chairs by the windows often.

The secretary desk was my grandmother's. It looked fine in her low-ceilinged living room, but it needed a little extra height in our space, thus the basket of goodies and lights on top. The table was my mom's, and about a year ago we put laminate on the top out of desperation when the veneer got reeeally bad. I'm still looking for a larger table to replace it, but for now, it works, and it is super-wipeable for everyday use. :-)
