Need help with Island or peninsula!

We are about to undergo a kitchen reno, and want to remove the island and put something in the area of the table. I would like to do a larger island, with seating on one side, in the location where the table currently sits. My wife is leaning towards the same, with a continuation of the counter connecting to the new island. As you know, folks tend to congregate in the kitchen. By eliminating the table it would steer traffic into the adjacent family room and/or dining room. I'm looking for any advice or ideas!

If possible, I would like to see both an island with seating and the breakfast table with chairs. The half wall would go away. If you remove the leaf from the breakfast table and scoot the table and chairs into the bay window area, I wonder what kind of space is left for an island?

What about a small banquette in he batty window with a small scale table? That may still leave you room for a larger island with seating.

You just don't have the layout to pull that off and it would not increase the value of your home. You won't have the work space of the existing island and the new island is not going to be in a useful position. You could put a sit at table height bar on the pony wall to eat at and watch tv.

Carolyn, the half wall leads to a step down family room, and has both electrical and duct work in it. We were thinking of facing the wall with cabinets for additional storage.
