So was the vent hood originally a wood? If so what type of paint was used?

The paint I used for the hood is: Porter's Original Paints in Liquid Zinc. The hood itself is scrolled wood frame &
drywall. I them applied a layer of
plaster and then the paint. The
project total cost was $300 dollars, instead of $15K I was quoted for a real
zinc hood. Good Luck!

I think the hood was plaster. I'd have to check with the homeowner on the paint.

Do you know what they did to finish the exposed beams in this kitchen? We would like to keep ours exposed, but our wood is very dark. Whereas these are very light and uniformly colored. . . which I like very much.

I believe the homeowner used a lime wash on the beams...but I'm not positive. You could also try diluting milk paint and using it as a wash.

Thank you for that. I will keep doing my google research and use those terms. I bet a lime wash paint is much less of a mess than the walnut shell blasting I had been investigating! Thanks again for your time to answer.
