Need help with gas fireplace

last modified: 9 years ago

Hello,

I'm trying to update my fireplace, and I need some help figuring out what product I need.

We have an old wood burning fireplace that was converted to gas by previous owners. I had everything cleaned and assessed, and the conclusion was that to repair damage to the chimney to use a vented gas log set would be too expensive and I should go with a ventless, lower BTU log set.

My main question is: Do I have to have a whole gas insert put in which would include the gas log set, fireplace doors, and what looks like a vent system to circulate air, or can I just buy a log set and glass doors separately?

Follow up question is what brands should I be looking at for a decent-looking log set/flames that isn't too expensive (preferably under $1000 with logs and doors).

I'm looking for some heat output to help keep the room cozy.

Thank you!
