Island Finishes:
1. Stain edges and high points on door and molding profiles with Mohawk Van Dyke
Glaze
It's not necessary to stain all areas, the idea is to have color on the wood
so raw wood
does not show later in the process when you do the "sand through" step.

2. Seal with Sherwin Williams Conversion Varnish Sanding Sealer

3. Sand w/ 220 grit sand paper

4. Paint with Sherwin Williams Ivory Conversion Varnish

5. Utilizing 220 grit sand paper, sand through Ivory C.Varnish to expose stained
areas below
make sanding marks random and be careful not to repeat same sanding pattern
on doors
and moldings. The idea is to make it look like natural wear & tear / old
finish

6. Using various hand tools, (many made here in our shop) create distress marks
on doors and cabinet
components. We use an awl type tool to make "wormhole marks". Create small
dents, nicks, along
with utilizing a file to make striated marks on some of the molding high
points.

7. Glaze with Mohawk brand Van Dyke heavy bodied glaze. Wipe on with rag or
spray with a cup gun
wipe off with clean rags leaving glaze in "nooks and crannies" and some
residual glaze on flat areas
to provide door with a more complex overall appearance

8. Top coat by spraying Sherwin Williams medium sheen conversion varnish.
