Lavender fragrance

Does the fragrance of Lavenders depend on certain factors? The foliage fragrance of my English Lavender seems to have decreased, since I got it two weeks ago. Instead of the characteristic fragrance of lavender, it smells more like normal green foliage of any other plant. Is there any way of increasing or maintaining their fragrance?

Are you growing this plant indoors? That could account for the reduction in fragrance. IME, lavender is difficult at best to grow indoors long term and really needs the direct sunlight from outdoors to develop and concentrate the essential oils.

No I am not growing it indoors. It's on my balcony, which faces east and gets around 2-3 hours direct sunlight. Do I need more sunlight than that?

We don't know where you are geographically but if it is winter aromatic herbs like lavender do tend to lose some of their scent. Sun intensifies it.

Yes it is winter. I am in zone 10 though, so the winter is not that intense here. However, daylight hours are still reduced, so I assume that's the culprit. Thank you for your feedback!
