3-striped Border for GD’s quilt
hard part is dealing with existing batting in seam.

Remove binding carefully,
Iron, add extra fabric to lengthen if reusing

Determine finished width of striped border
Draw corner square with finished dimensions.

Measure the quilt edges.
Measure the longer edge of each strip in triangle.
Add the 3 all sections together plus seam allowances plus extra just to be safe.
Sew strips together, border will be stepped.

Matching centers, cut center of border – no corners, yet.
Cut triangle at each end plus seam allowances.
Pin each triangle to correct end of center section.

Sew border to original quilt, right sides together.
Keep track of correct placement of triangles
Repeat for backside border.

This is where everything got fiddly for me.

Carefully pin triangle to center section, sew vertical seam.
Repeat with each triangle.
Sew triangle halves together, carefully matching diagonal seams (so cornerstone looks good).

I ended up hand sewing at the intersection.
Iron border so it lies flat – all seams out.
There will be a lump at intersection. Use a hammer and beat it down flat.
Hammer works better than a clapper

Working one side at a time, add batting- pin sandwich, quilt.
If necessary, sew batting pieces together with catch-stitch (herringbone).
Repeat each side.

Trim, add binding.
