Protect Wood Counter from Range Heat

We have a new walnut counter on top of a quartz backsplash behind our range. We are concerned that the wood counter will burn or discolor caused by heat from the range. Does anyone have an idea to protect the counter from heat that is an attractive, contemporary, long-term solution? Thank you.
