Yes you can mix but it has to coordinate. I would do hardware all same, faucets can be same and lighting all same.

I think your plan sounds beautiful. At first I thought no, keep the plumbing fixtures the same, but when I see the plan, and how the copper sink/faucet is treated as a special "jewel" in the wood countertop, I think it will be beautiful. I think the polished nickel is a neutral, (almost like a mirror goes with anything).

Just remember to keep the finishes of the rest of the room to a minimum, so the eye is moving easily around the room, without being stopped at every turn. Like your white shaker, simpler can also be more elegant.

Thanks everyone for your input. I am 100% visual and picking all the finishes for this new build has been daunting. I've been copying and pasting and photoshopping all of my studded walls to help get an idea of where I am going with all of this.....I like so many different styles and colors! I have built several homes before, but it seems the older I get, the more difficult this becomes. Any suggestions for the perimeter countertop? I was thinking a warm white marble (very subdued with very little veining), but Taj Mahal quartzite is appealing as well (don't know if I can afford the Taj Mahal as I haven't priced it out).

I would do brass faucets and chrome hardware.

Ha....I didn't make myself clear. I was not planning on adding in more metals/finishes, but was going to use the finishes I already mentioned (polished nickel, unlacquered brass & copper) to help tie it all together by using those in other areas of the kitchen (knobs, pulls, lighting etc.). I was a little concerned about the two different sink materials (white fireclay and hammered copper) along with the different finishes in the plumbing fixtures (polished nickel and copper/brass). That was my main concern.

Question: What is the purpose of three sinks? Can you eliminate the smallest one? If the main purpose is for pot filling near the stove I would suggest a pot-filler above the stove itself. Have you consulted a kitchen designer on your project? The layout I see in your plan does not follow the "kitchen triangle" rule with appliances.

I will be having polished nickel plumbing fixtures on the perimeter counters and then a copper/brass faucet in the island along with the copper sink. I do not care for chrome hardware at all...it is much too cold for my taste. I will have to check out the marble you suggested... I'm not familiar with it.

Why not do all brass fixtures and polished nickel hardware?

Aha....rules were made to be broken :). Two prep areas (one for myself near the stove, and one for my husband in the island). This layout will prevent us from bumping into one another and we will each have our own space (I'm REALLY looking forward to this). Then there will be a large sink near the windows for dishwashing etc. There will be a pot filler at the stove, and yes, we have consulted a design specialist. My needs are somewhat out of the ordinary and it's a bit difficult to design things in such a way to accomplish my goals. The typical triangle will not work here. We also have a 14'x 12' scullery with an additional sink....a lot of plumbing in this house!

Too much brass for all the fixtures to be brass. I just want a touch of it, and I love, love, love the look of the polished nickel (Waterstone's gantry faucet and prep faucet). I will have a 48" Wolf range with stainless knobs (in place of the red). They also make a brass bevel for their knobs instead of stainless, so I might order those (though I will have to take off the lacquer if they come that way).

Thanks for the tip about keeping the other finishes to a minimum and having rest for the eyes. That is also an important concept in the garden as well (I'm an avid gardener). Expanses of grass (which is very restful for the eye) in between flowering plants and bushes is so important and helps keep things peaceful AND beautiful.

Is your island 7 ft deep? How do you plan on reaching the middle of it to clean?

Also, what are your aisle dimensions? Measuring from countertop to appliance that sticks out the most. Afraid you might not have enough space being back to back at prep sink in island and range.

Also the stools are in the aisles as well. Try to get minimum 48" aisles all around and maybe even more behind the seating. You can do that by chopping down that massive island

The island is not exactly as show. There will be 4 feet wide walkways from counter edge to counter edge in the fridge and triple window walkways, and the walkway between the stove and island will be 4' 6" wide. The size of the island will be whatever is left over.

Back to your original question on mixing finishes: I mixed stainless, brushed nickel and copper in my kitchen. My appliances are stainless, the faucet is brushed nickel, my tile backsplash above my cooktop has

a relief medallion from Sonoma Tilemakers in an aged copper and my cabinet hardware has a black with aged copper edging on it. My island pendants are black with a coppery glass. It all ties together very well.

Finstads Carpet One, Sound beautiful.....and looks beautiful from what I can see here. I am feeling much more confident in my choices now.
