Beams for what; deck, trellis, etc?

No wood. Fiberglass over steel. Or cedar cladding over steel. Or Fypon over steel. Things that rot should be eliminated from the exterior of your home as much as possible.

Depending on the porch material, you can use block or PT material to frame your base for the column... anchor the base to the porch, use typical surface prep for the stone surface, put the stone up with the stone cap on top of it, and use fiberglass column on top of the cap going up to the beam supporting the roof.

Very simple and inexpensive and it will last for the life of the house.
