Comforter crinkle

Anyone have any experience in making a crinkly cotton-shell comforter quieter? Would fabric softener help, much as I hate the stuff? Wouldn't want to mess up the filling, which is continuous filament polyester, the kind that can't shift around. It's been washed a few times at 140F and is still noisy.

If the comforter shell is 100% cotton the crinkly noise only can be coming from a finishing process. Alternately, it can be coming from a small amount of another fiber blended with the cotton.

The Chinese-made cotton sheets I purchased at Target had that noisy quality. It took 5-6 washings for the texture to change. The comforter might take more.

Sorry suburbanmd.....I had to get ride of two blankets/comforters for this crinkly reason. We hated the feel and slight crinkle sound. I did 2 or 3 washings with and without fabric softener, and while the fabric softener did help a little, the noise and feel was still there. We said bye bye to both comforters...one donated one, uh......went away. LOL

Use of a duvet cover might help muffle the crinkle noise. My experience with the crinkle noise is in the blend and the weave of the fabric. No amount of washing is going to change that. I shifted my crinkle comforter to a family member who didn't mind the sound.

Had this issue with a percale cotton duvet cover. I prefer not to use FS on bedding either. The only way I was able to reduce (not completely remove) the noise was performing multiple washes in different detergents (Le Blanc included since it seems to soften) and then dry using wool dryer balls which seemed to soften the fabric a bit.

Thanks for the comments. I'm trying to improve it for my wife's sake, but it isn't so bad that I'd get rid of it or cover it. I sleep so well under this comforter that I move less than usual.

I love, love, love this comforter (I sound like larsi now). It's a Choice Hotels "blanket" (light comforter) that I got on ebay. White, washable at 140F, fits easily in my Little Giant, hotel quality with double needle corded edge, filling that won't shift. I decided to get another, and managed to find a source for the unbranded version, without a hotel label. Minimum quantity is 4, so I ordered that many, for $260 with shipping. Maybe crazy, but no one here would call me crazy for buying a single comforter for that much, and I'm getting 4 sturdy ones.

Not at all crazy. You got a great deal on a product you like.

Anyone that uses high quality percale, I'm sure Roc does knows percale isn't loud, but it is crisp and makes a soft rustling sound.

Percale is crisp when ironed but none of my sheets make that noise except that one set from Target. I've never heard that noise from any other cotton bedding in my life. Obviously, the comforter won't be ironed.

Maybe it's more of a rustling. Not like the Cuddledown temperature regulating comforter that I liked, but my wife couldn't stand the noise.
