need help with my fireplace

hello ! houzz has really helped with the continuous and never stopping renovation of our new home... next task for us is the fireplace! my husband wants us to cover it with some kind od white off white stone. the main problem is with the trimming in the ceiling. personally I hate it but my husband loves and marriage is all about concessions ( I think)!! I have brought 3 carpenters to see the trimming and they all day it will be difficult ( aka expensive) to recreate it. the last carpenter advised me to cover it with stone and to not put any trimming on the ceiling as it will be different from the rest of the room. what is your opinion? other things we ar

e going to do is put a wooden mantelpiece that will go round the fireplace to even out the size .

I'm not sure I'm following everything you are saying, so I apologize if I'm saying what you already said...if the fireplace is going to be stone from top to ceiling, I would not put trim where the stone meets the ceiling. If your husband loves the trim, keep it around the rest of the room.

same as above mentioned.....run the stone up to the ceiling and just remove the trim in those locations.

Your fireplace is too cluttered. Remove everything on the mantel and in and around the hearth.

Post more pictures.

Concentrate on using art and a few accessories correctly. You might find that the fireplace is fine without spending a bundle on stone.

Start with one larger picture or framed vintage poster on the mantel.

Hello we have lived with the fireplace as is for over a year and still can't find a way to like it as it is. We have been looking for the right stone to put but we haven't found something we like yet. The painting is a bit too small but was a wedding present from my inlaws so until we find something better suited it has to stay. Our house is not very modern I don't think we could pull of a poster..
