Cabinets to the ceiling?

I have a small galley kitchen and we are going to be replacing the cabinets. Right now the shelf sizes are weird and the spacing above the cabinets are just short enough that nothing taller than a 16oz glass could fit. So I was assuming we would just make the new cabinets a little lower (there is space underneath as I think the whole box sits a little high. Then I wondered if there should be a space at all? I started googling and noticed a lot of people put a false front above their cabinets. So I'm thinking of having the top cabinets have glass doors so I can store my decorative dishes there (and not have to use up prime reachable cabinets that I currently have the dishes I use in). Thoughts? Are there considerations such as kitchen size, ceiling height, etc?
