Rita, I also dislike SBS, but not really sure why! I generally don't care for basket designs, but can't think of any others right now.

My only experience with QIAD was a guild class I took several years ago, making the card tricks pattern. My recollection is that we cut oversize pieces then trimmed them down after sewing, and I thought it was a very wasteful technique!

What we like and dislike is what makes us unique. There is no right or wrong, we just do it our way. I also think fussy cutting makes waste but since I use small squares, they get cut and put in another quilt. I also dislike taking numerous steps when less will give me the same outcome........HST comes to mind. I prefer No Waste Flying Geese as opposed to putting 2 squares on a rectangle. And, yes, I like Sunbonnet Sue and in fact have made a Southern Belle Sue by using some leftover fans for her dress. But then, ya'll know I like her. :-)

I like SBS, too. I have some patterns I like to look at, but don't have any desire to make. Sometimes fabric choice can also influence if I like a pattern or not. It is a good thing we don't all like the same things. How boring would life be if we liked/made the same things?

While I might enjoy looking at these quilts, you'll probably never see one of these under my machine: Bargello, One Block Wonders (and similar techniques), anything fussy cut, and miniature quilts with those tee-tiny pieces.

I've never been drawn to the Judy Niemeyer paper-pieced quilts. I can't say exactly why. Too fussy, maybe. I also don't like quilts that are excessively quilted without design purpose.

SBS is charming, but I don't think I would make a quilt with her blocks. I don't like "uncontrolled" scrappy quilts that have no rhyme or reason. I also usually avoid fabrics that are traditional florals. I love my country, but I'm not a fan of patriotic quilts either. Nor do I usually like bargellos or trips around the world.

All that being said, I've seen quilts in all those categories that I thought were lovely.

i love looking at quilts of all styles but know that I would never attempt them. Paper piecing for one block ok but not a whole quilt. What I guess is called Modern is not my taste. I always thought I would like to do a Bargello but lately, that has gone off my list. And like Teresa, those tiny pieces give me the willies.

Curved piecing in small amounts, really small amounts.

and I did do a SBS and a SBSam but they were for two young folks.

And I love fans. LOL I love controlled scrappy especially. I can't think of anything i particular that I don't like, but I haven't done that many different techniques. I don't think I would like to do a quilt all the blocks the same.

Wow, I love fans, too! The very first quilt I ever made was a Grandmother's fan quilt for my mom. Back in the 80's. Using TEMPLATES! There was not such thing as cutting mats and rotary cutters, except for the framing industry, which I knew nothing about. And with the curved piecing yes, I know, not the wisest choice for a newbie with no-one to show me how. How I struggled with that until I figured it out. But it turned out great, my youngest sister has that now. I also like Dresdens but I've never made one. I do have one that an Aunt made, way back before I started quilting. She used blankets as binding (West Virginia style) and that sucker is so heavy. I keep that one on a twin bed in the spare room.

I like all the different Bargello designs but have never had any desire to make one. I have not tried paper piecing as it seems too tedious to me. I always liked the older patterns but lately I have been drawn to more modern patterns. I LOVE scrappy quilts. Usually do the more controlled scrappy but have also made the anything-goes type. Scrappies always remind me of my beloved grandparents. I can remember lying under those quilts, enjoying all the different pieces. I am not a fan of SBS but have made 2 SBS quilts. Go figure! I like Drunkard's Path pattern and I am in the process of making one with templates. I admire quilts that have a zillion pieces but I don't want to try one. I also like applique. I like to do hand applique (turn-under) and hand quilting as I find it relaxing.

Bkay, if you Google Sunbonnet Sue you'll find there are "evil" Sues who do things like the one above where she's kicking the snowman. And I'm sure she does far worse things than that! LOL

I love all these comments! it's our diversity that keeps quilting so much fun! I can't think of anything I really don't like, but my loves include things like cathedral windows, Dresden plate (tho I've never attempted it), was terrified of prairie points until I made some and now I love them. SBS?? she's cute but I've not attempted; it appears that she can be the evil little wench!!

I'm not fond of quilts that are really "spiky". I love scrappy quilts and wonky quilts but not crazy quilts. I'll probably never do a wedding ring or cathedral window. I like the modern sassy SBSue or the exotic around-the-world ones. I adore miniature quilts and prefer bright colors over muted ones.

Haha, Flamingo - I told my DH once that I didn't care for "spiky" quilts and he promptly went around the house pointing them out. :)

Bev, I love your starter quilts too. They remind me of my first quilt. I cut the patterns out of cereal boxes although I did all the sewing by machine.

Interesting thread....I dont think I've been quilting long enough to state too many that I don't like, except for SBS. Don't like it, won't make it.

I also struggle with liking a quilt where the colors are not coordinated or complimentary, like a quilt with red and orange on a maroon background....it's like nails on a chalkboard to my eyes...yikes!

Oh, I love spiky quilts! And I think red, orange and maroon would be lovely! It's a good thing we all have different tastes, the world would be very boring.
