What color to paint the room?

If you like turquoise and red, a softer approach may work better. Your pelmet is a bit too much and doesn't really do much good in your room. Sorry. Perhaps you can take some colour inspiration from these rooms:

your rug is nice and it has a soft teal color. I would pick that one, instead of the red.

It looks like a small room you domn't want to feel like the walls are coming in on you with the red. A very pale blue like a Tiffiney blue watered down would be nice.

I would suggest you take a different approach. Painting one wall red can be very overpowering. You're probably better of painting an accent wall in a turquoise and combine that with beige, white and softer shades of the same turquoise. Do your pillows and curtains in red, turquoise and perhaps add a golden yellow.

Please, if you really like a paintcolour, test it out first before you paint an entire wall. Paint a poster board or a piece of plasterboard from edge to edge and place it against the wall. Take at least a day to judge it. Colours change in different lights. Some paint producers provide large colour cards that you can place against your walls.

Love carolins choices. The designs have the turquoise as the primary color with little pops of the red. I think you should do the wall in turquoise or teal color. I think the sheen of the window treatment along with it being pulled straight instead of shirred on the rod is not working. It doesn't seem to blend with the items in your room now. The room has a lot of wood so you may want to consider something other than wood blinds. You could do a roman shade in your new colors or a pair of side panels. The little window toppers without panels underneath can also have a dated look. Love the bold color choices.

I agree with all the comments above. I'd like to see a light turquoise on the walls. Sorry about the curtains. :( My issue with them is they seem to compress the room. If you had panels you could hang them well above the window and it would give the room some nice height. I love the panels carolins suggests above. (Of course panels are expensive so not sure that's in the budget.) Also love your rug. Would be nice if you had a clear table (glass or acrylic) so that you could see more of it! That would also solve the too much wood problem mentioned above.

Thanks for all of the ideas! I should have waited until I was home and taken pics of the entire room as it is not small at all. It is an open living/dining/kitchen with bar. I'm sure panels would look great but I have to be practical as well. My cat would shred them in about a week:) I like the teal wall color idea. Thanks!

akelly75, you obviously desire a bright, energetic room but I would be concerned that dark wall colors like red or turquoise will give your space an almost cave-like appearance because you have dark wood floors, chocolate brown upholstery, and medium to dark toned wood pieces. If you had white painted furnishings or light upholstery you could pull off walls with saturated color. I would be inclined to paint your walls a pale yellow similar to the inspiration photo.
