Those are called keikis, they are new plants, the silver growths are roots. They look old enough to be separated and planted on their own. I would cut the stem on either side of the plant, if you try to remove them from the stem you might damage them.

Actually I leave the stem as long as possible but cut some of it in order to make it fit in the pot. The new plant can draw nutrition from the stem. Allow the stem to be buried in the pot. The stem will also help to anchor the plant until the roots will eventually grab on. Do not brake the roots handle with care. The double could go in to a larger pot...

I have no idea of the name. It was given to me a couple of years ago without any label. I thought the flower was so beautiful I've tried to look after it, but as of now my knowledge is very limited so I find this forum really helpful.

I would cut the old stems to within 1/2" of the main plant. Let the main plant use the "energy" for next season's spiking and blooming.

Handle the kiekis as James/Harvey have directed.

Thanks for all your help. I've potted the keikis today with fingers and toes crossed. I'll post some pics in a few weeks to show there progress.

And do leave those nice new roots if you want it to take off fast and survive.
