Counter height for (front load) washer/dryer?

We are redoing our laundry room and adding a counter above the existing washer/dryer. I would like the counter height approx. 36" tall (from floor) but now I am wondering if that is a smart move if I buy a new washer or dryer in the future. It looks like high-capacity frontloading washers and dryers are anywhere from 35 to 42 inches tall-- not helpful if I don't have a particular make and model in mind right now to design around. Any advice for what counter height I would be best to consider? Thank you!!

Larger capacity front loaders are all tall, and have usable tops on them. You don't need a counter on top of them. They are also much deeper front to back than a standard counter, so fitting a counter is awkward. And, the location of your electrical and your washer valves makes a counter problematic.

Leave off a counter. That is just one more silly Houzz trend that needs to die an agonizing death.
