So you will need to make some decisions as to size of table , shape and be sure when measuring that you allow at least 30” all around the table for chairs I would also suggest while shopping that you look at office murphy style set ups where hubbys office can be closed off when not in use to make this a nice entertaining space

Bad idea to have office and dining room combined. Never looks appropriate or neat

If there is no place else to move hubby, then get rid of the current desk, shelving etc and combine it into a furniture piece that works for him, but can be concealed when not in use. An item like this can still look nice in a dining area and will provide him with storage as required.

I do like both of the suggestions, my husband is resistant to change. I have the great room next to it, that is quite large which is our main living area. Also have a smaller room on other side of house that is a den. Maybe I can separate it with a nice piece of furniture or chair?

Wanjess, that looks like an option. His space is soley his space. It took me 5 years to get a much larger desk from the main living room to this room. Grant it , he has spent 40 + hours a week there. Recently, he took a job that will be away from the home office. Then I can do some magic.
