I am wondering, cover the mantel with what? You could leave it in place and simply bump it out a bit and stain the wood to match....to match your bookcase on the right of the photo? It's an absolutely beautiful fireplace. I don't think that I would diminish the size of the mantel, but in fact, increase it. It's too large a scale fireplace to go small and it's too rustic to go sleek.

I agree with Brown Bros. Masonry - a warm gray color on that wall will make the fireplace pot, then accent the mantle with a grouping of vases in the red of your rug.

I would love to have that Fireplace!!!! Mine is just brick.. I do have a Persian rug and love my paint. Its a sage color that would go nice with your rug. Also, I would darken your mantel with a rich stain to tie in the rug. Ps. cant remember the exact paint name. But if you open your sage seasoning can, mine is that color exact :-)

I need to stay in the golds or tans fir the wall.... The furniture is bronze, indigo, and a tweed of all of them. No grey in my home mostly reds, cinnamon etc.

You could put a large art painting in vertical with red, yellow or orange tones. Paint the wall to add more light in a pastel Vanilla and the woods you could paint with a wood toner in a deep brown. And put just one vase or floor art with the same tones of your painting. Have fun! Enjoy!

You are not stuck with the same color palette. There are ways to mix your palette with the right grey. Grey is the new neutral. Think of all the earthtones...grey is one of them. You just need to find the right grey. I have attached other Houzz ideas of mixing grey with browns, yellows...

I love all of those but did you look at my new rug? One of my new chairs will be Indigo Blue two others in a camel, dark blue cream tweed, and the soft in a burnt carmel with high winged arms an 2 of three have nail head trim. I can't figure out how to mix grey in with all of that as my house is large and open in the reds, cinnamons and coppers but do love those pics !

What do you think of this light grey? I see a grey tone in the stone of your fireplace. I would agree that the mantle needs to be a darker stain. I think this grey would give all your colors a soft soothing back drop for them to pop. I see the copper, cinnamons, reds and indigo blue filling a room like this. You will just need to try some samples on the walls (or use posterboards and move them around your room). Keep looking, have fun with it.

I would suggest to leave the fireplace as is! The colors you are choosing for your furniture already make statement and the fireplace does not have to make a "colorful" statement. I would suggest a cool iron piece mounted above the fireplace....something that is unique but does't scream at you. Love the fireplace What a great room!

Find a sealer for stone to bring out more color and definition.
It doesn't have to be a wet or shiny look, just deeper stone color. It will look awesome!

My living room already had a great mirror and those two rooms connect through a door so repeating a large mirror would be redundant

I live in Michigan and we go to a store called Materials Unlimited that has all sorts of pieces...and a friend of mine found a big iron gate from there that she hung on the wall. It looked awesome!
