Cilantro bolts fast even out in the garden. That's just its nature. You need to keep sowing new batches. And keep harvesting - that fends off the bolting a little.

What is the best procedure for trimming? I've been just basically cutting it back, leaving a few leaves for continued growth. Is that what you mean about harvesting?

Nothing complicated about it. Just cut it off with scissors and eat it. Sounds as if you're doing that already.

I forgot to ask about watering. Is it be to always keep the soil just moist, or can it be watered too often?

Any plant can be watered too often - I'd say its about the commonest cause of failure in indoor potted plants.

How big is the container you're growing your cilantro in? Specifically, how deep is your growing mix?

It's big enough that when I finally pull the plant out of the soil, it's only 4" deep, while the pot is at least 10".

Consider it to be a "disposable" plant and keep starting new batches in shallow containers.

I don't happen to have any bees around, and have just planted my last set of seeds.

Almost anyplace will have cilantro/coriander seeds. I got mine at the Dollar Tree store or Walmart. Unless you absolutely have to have organically grown seed, I'd go with that, and I wouldn't spend more than a quarter for a pack of seeds.

Of course, I don't know where in the world you live. Amazon vendors will work if you don't have a local source.

I harvest seeds from my outdoor grown cilantro in the summer. I grow 3 or 4 "waves" of cilantro over the summer, and I keep the seeds from the last plant to bolt each time.

I don't have bees indoors. I use a tiny paint brush to polinate my indoor crops, or I just shake the plants/branches a bit to shake loose and distribute the pollen. I don't bother pollinating things I already have seeds for, but I will manually pollinate tomatoes, peppers, squash and other indoor grown crops that blossom and fruit.

You can look for "slow bolt" or "long lasting" cilantro seeds. The plants from these will tend to last longer, but as others have said cilantro is very finicky and will bolt at the slightest stress (particularly high temperatures).

As for seeds, I suggest your local garden center. Burpee or Botanical Interests brands have done well for me. I'd avoid bargain bin places like Wal-Mart...you get what you pay for.
