I hate to be the first since I'm not an expert by any means, but my first thought was the picture is too big. I'd put a rectangular, horizontal picture a little higher than the window or the same level.

Your skyscape is perfect--it doesn't seem too big. But remove everything on the mantel Hang the painting about 6"-8" up so it's "floating." Replace one of the lanterns with a basket of tall birch logs on the hearth even if you have gas fireplace. Real logs bring nature into the room and will link with your sky painting.

It might work if you place it asymmetrically - so, offset it to the left, with much taller vases layered on the right . Re: the vases - the blue in the picture somehow looks off with the aqua in the vases (might be my monitor?) Also, I'd consider removing the two lanterns.

I like sue j's idea, hope you get a chance to change it up and post a pic. I think the added height of the wall on the left may help the size relationship between the art and the wall.

I think it's nice but too tall. I don't think you should attempt to decorate / accentuate "high ceilings ". I believe that you should ignore the height & decorate in scale to the room (if you understand what I'm trying to say not very articulately:) ).

The print is fine. The rest of the mantel could be restyled to have more impact. First lose the vase of sticks.

Try making your mantel simple by removing all of the other items like you see here in a project we completed.
