Bed bath and beyond believe it or not..... What color sheets, blue or white?

I like the white. Pottery Barn has a sheet set, Morgan Banded, with pillow cases (that you can purchase independent of a whole sheet set) that I like to mix with white sheets. The whole set is a little too steep for me @ $229 for king size, but the pillow cases are reasonable @ $45. PB has a 25% off one item today that helps too.

You should go for a duvet cover in college so you can easily wash it without taking it to the cleaners. I like this one.

it's urban outfitters and has a great college and chill vibe while still providing style. Even if you don't like this one get a duvet cover and a nice duvet. Sleep is so important in school. So keep you stuff clean and allergy free.

To me, #1 is the most youthful, but because I am older, possibly I'm more attracted to living with something youthful -- and you would prefer something more sophisticated, being #2 With that I would go with blue sheets. For #1, white.

For a cozy solid colored rug check out the Safavieh shags. They're relatively inexpensive and some styles come in a good variety of colors including navy and white. Their Milan shag is highly rated on Amazon, but do price compare. These are sold by many online shopping sites and go on sale often.

I think white sheets work best with #1, but dark blue would be my personal preference with #2 or #3.

Number 2 is striking to me. Operative word is me. Choose what speaks to you. I would stick with a solid color rug since your bedding has so much pattern. Plus, if you decide to change up, the solid rug could be incorporated. Do you have an IKEA or Big Lots close by? Just options for spending on a budget. Good luck with your selection and most importantly, college!

I vote for Number 1, a bit more subtle. Number 3 is also cool if you are going for just a bit more contemporary.

I have been out shopping for a quilt or comforter for the past couple of days myself. Saw lots of blue ones...must be the "in" color. I like #2 a lot. It's the only one that isn't just a repetitive pattern. Has more visual interest. You can find inexpensive solid color area rugs in stores like Job Lots. Just make sure they are bound.

I just washed my existing comforter at the laundromat (large machine). Think it cost around $8 total for wash & dry. No need to dry clean if the tag says washable.

I've always been a fan of indigo in the bedroom. I've had the palette for over 20 years in 6 house now! This pic just shows our duvet with a coverlet we bought in India years ago, but in summer, we use a shibori quilt.

My favorites are your #2 and Bev's #4 (I love a moody bedroom). Have you looked at www.society6.com ? It's a great website for creative and inexpensive home accessories, bedding and art.

My favorite is #2. And IKEA has some wonderful sisal area rugs as well as softer rugs, and a great selection of accessories and prints/frames. With #2 bedding, the rest of the room doesn't need a whole lot of stuff and pattern. And so many colors coordinate with blue (yellow, green, coral, orange for example), if you want a pop of color.

Maybe you could use some shams from one and the duvet from the other. Your bedding doesn't have to be matchy matchy.

Choice #3 has an element of fun to it. Reminds me of Scandanavian designs. Colors less prone to showing stains (spilled food/drinks- unless it's cola or berry colors...). Ikea has good choices for curtains/drapes at reasonable prices. If you'll need to block light/noise, think about thermal liners or light blocking liners). You don't say if you'll share the space or where it is, but if possible, go with lighter drapes for contrast and to make the space appear larger. Rug in matching dark blue would be less likely to show dirt. Good luck.

I agree with the person who recommended Overstock. If you type in the words "as is" you get their returns at half or less of new price. I've bought 2 area rugs and 2 comforters this way from them over the years and they have all been fine. But know what you want, they are impossible to return. Last month purchased a Madison Park comforter set with several extra pillows for $30 and $2.95 shipping. It is in my guest room and it is perfect.

Go for easy-care, durable, versatile, and inexpensive. You will have many visitors to your room who will not be at all careful with your things.

I love your second choice - beauty! If you buy inexpensive white curtain panels, you can add a navy band to the leading edge by purchasing 2 inch wide navy bias tape and sewing it to the edge. Really easy, custom and cheap!

Abby, all your choices were great - I liked #2 for a little "fancier" choice and #3 for a more "college-y" feel. Glad you decided on 2! Someone else mentioned indoor/outdoor rugs - great idea. Walmart, Lowe's and Home Depot have various sizes/colors/patterns (I remember a beige one with blue trim and a few others that would work). They're cheap, and if something gets spilled, things don't usually soak in, but if they do, you can just take it outside and hose it down! Do you have to have curtains? What about blinds? I like the idea mentioned just above about white curtains w/ a little navy trim (or vice versa). Pier One has some navy grommet curtains that might work. Good luck!

These days I love a white down blend because it feels so good. I got my down blend at Target for $39 king size. It's perfect and I can easily wash it.

I change out decorative pillows just whenever. I also wash and change a bottom end blanket. Affordable and fun! Tastes change :)

Matching duvet covers and shams are not my cup of tea. Especially on a college budget, I suggest navy sheets and a wonderful Ikat or Morocco inspired blanket folded at the foot of the bed. If your duvet is white ( or a neutral like camel or grey ) that also works folded at the foot. Keep the bedding simple and add a few wonderful pillows in the color theme, that uniquely speak to you.

quruxleey1 - I think you're supposed to start a new thread when you have a question / issue. Having said that, tho, some quick suggestions. Your furniture and the colors are great - good neutral backdrop; however, you really do need some pops of brighter colors. How 'bout a large modern painting on the short wall, and perhaps 3 sunburst mirrors of different sizes and finishes over the larger couch (since everything else is so square and boxy). Pick a couple colors from the painting and get some pillows and drapes with those colors (drapes could have a pattern). I like the 1st and 2nd ones best because they are more sophisticated looking so you will get more mileage out of them for years to come. The others are a little trendy looking an you may tire of them or they may not fit in the the trends as they change. I personally would like a Sheepskin Rug - not practical but it would look amazing. Or an off White Shag rug maybe something really soft.

I like the third and the first options the best :) The first one is moer simple and sophisticated I believe.

I like number two. For area rugs, the best option for something on the cheaper side is a flat woven rug try looking at NuLoom rugs on Amazon.
