Help with updating brick fireplace wall

Need help deciding whether to leave this brick wall alone, whitewash it or paint it either wall (BM Camouflage) or trim (BM Cloud White) color. My head is spinning with all the possibilities but am scared to try something that can't be reversed!

You could tile over it. Here is a photo of a fireplace I designed for a client. The original fireplace was brick that went to the ceiling just like yours, except my client had cathedral ceilings and a niche to the right that I added custom built bookcase into. We covered over top of the brick by adding cement board for the tile to go on. I have an album of other ideas of fireplace projects that I have done for my clients on my Houzz page.

If you're staying with that furniture and that wall color, you might as well keep it as is. In my humble opinion, if you paint it white, it'll just blend into the wall instead of being a focal point.

With the furniture you have I would leave the fireplace as is but change the wall colour to a more neutral earthy colour. Move your furniture out on both the sides, it looks to tight in there.

Do you like the brick? Or are you just tired of it? Can you afford to have a new rock or tile placed over it? It would look gorgeous with a slate or river rock...don't know if that is viable, hence the paint questions.

I agree with poulet; if you're going to keep your furniture, which is more "colonial" then I'd leave the fireplace and paint the walls. Personally I'm a fan of covering over older fireplaces with drywall and wood mantles, but then you'd have an updated fireplace and would need to rethink your decor. Check out houzz fireplaces an you'll get a lot of ideas. Decide on one and then go from there. Chrysteen

It came from my Mom. I was in my late 20s and made a comment about how I wasn't exactly Spring poulet anymore and the poulet part stuck.

To stay with colonial colors - paint walls and fireplace same color -- not stark white if keeping furniture but creamy beige or something that is neutral ...like the idea of drywalling and painting with wood mantle.
