I was hoping to find out if: the lights actually illuminate the stairs at all, do they work with the American electrical system (anything tricky about them?), are they really that inexpensive for the entire kit?

Our architect said "I don’t see that this one is UL listed so I would pass on it. Foreign made lighting is typically okay for US use if it is UL listed".

The above link gives the price of $350 per light,that's a lot more expensive than $18 or even 10-15 GBP,and I can NOT find the Calux lamps mentioned, can anybody please help with the right info?

These lights are called Compass so you can google them and compare prices for shops that carry them. Another foto on Houzz had the same lights on the staircase and the architect answered and said Compass. They are incredibly expensive which makes sense because they are unusual and cool and that = expensive.

We are planning a remodel very soon, and I saw these lights and had my contractor get the specs. They are expensive - about $350 each - but even more important for our house, they measure about 5" in diameter and will stick out away from the wall about 4". That blows it for our new stairway, that is fairly narrow as is...beautiful lighting, though! (These are the Compass lights, not the other brand, but I would sure check measurements!)

Update for those of you who love these compass lights. Found them at Delta Lighting for $135 each, and they come in three different colors. Even better, these are much smaller than the other lights I listed above.

Has anyone ordered these lights that were dimmable? I was told that they could be dimmed but only if you asked for a dimmable driver. I have these lights and they are very bright. When I asked about a dimmable driver I was told Delta didn't have one. Anyone know about this. Thanks for any help.

Hi linny123, I'm a dimmer fenatic and asked for these dimmable (by installing a dimmer) but our electrician said no because of the low voltage. Have not heard of the driver - good luck!
