please consider 2 part epoxy grout - harder instal, but great durability and mildew preventer

I would use white grout with the white tile. You may not want all of the pattern effect silver tile would cause. The floor should be the feature, it is beautiful!!

Silver is still light and won't show the mildew as quickly as the white.

Your dad is doing a lovely job. If you use the silver then you will see the grout lines and it will appear a bit busier but if you use the white you won't notice the grout lines as much. My inclination would be to stay with the white, but I don't think there is a definite right or wrong. Agree with above comment about the 2 part epoxy, or at least one of the new non stain grouts. The epoxy it more finicky to install so if you choose that talk to a qualified sales rep and learn everything you can about installing it.

I usually don't like white grout, but in this case I do. Why? It will show off the design of the English Grey deco strip. I agree highly with Custom Home Planning Center- two part epoxy grout!!! I like Laticrete Spectralock. It will never mold or mildew, doesn't stain, never needs sealing. It also doesn't chip out like the old standard grout does later on. Be sure to get a matching caulk.

white grout is a nightmare. I will never use again anyplace. Silver gray will look awesome. Love it all.

just used gray grout in my kitchen and it looks amazing with my subway tile. Enough definition to notice the tiles. Love it!

Grow on me? That's exactly what you don't want in good design. Go with the white...and what is the racing stripe suppose to do? Why was a niche not put in to hold toiletries? Those corner coves are pretty useless.

I forgot to add. If you decide to go with the silver gray grout, be prepared for the subway tile to stand out more than the deco strip. My professional opinion is it will look far too busy and deco liner will get lost.

Gray grout is traditional with subway tile...and it looks good too!

I disagree, and as a professional designer I'd tell you many of us would go either way. I'd go silver grout and brushed nickle or stainless fixtures. Will the shower walls be frameless? Either framed or frameless I would use nickle or stainless hinges and accent pieces on the shower walls and doors. The silver ties it all in together. I'd even use a enhancer sealer (if you are using a regular grout) to darken all the silver and make it more grey accenting the grout lines even more. Yes the white grout is more authentic but so are tiny grout lines, and of late, larger grout lines and colored grout has become more popular.

If you like the silver, then go with that... after all you wil be the one living there :-)

Shower will have glass walls, 1/2" thick glass. Originally I thought the silver grout on the floor would be darker but I think it is light enough that staying with the same color thoughout is the way to go.

Personal preference but I did not want a niche, one wall is an outside wall (as you can tell by the window) and the other wall has sound proofing insulation installed.

The deco strip I would have rather it matched the deco around the curb but he was already halfway through doing it before I got there to make the change. It will still look great, he does great work.

I would go with the silver, personally, it's still light enough.

Having lived with colored wider grout in a shower...I WOULD NEVER DO IT AGAIN! You can always bleach white! I want to see mildew so I can attack it, not have it creep up on me:)

BTW, for anyone doing a shower that is on a single story or top story of a house, consider a solar tube over the shower. It is wonderful to have sunlight all day to discourage mold. The solar tube especially great over a kids shower!

Solar tubes are fabulous...there's that lovely "racing stripe" in the shower. I don't get it...

Yes...this would have been much higher end looking if it had all been white. See the difference? I believe the silver makes the tile look dirty from the start or like a public school locker room. And those stripes that in so many showers make no sense. They don't do anything to tie in with the design...design, not color of other accent tiles.

Jane, yes, I also prefer the grout to "disappear" or blend in completely with the tiles. :) I agree with Jane, and I vote for whatever grout color that makes the grout completely disappear into the tiles.

I vote white grout and definitely get the epoxy grout as mentioned above.

Generally, I think this is a completely subjective, personal preference. But in your case with the accent strip and the style of the floor, I would go for a grout that disappears. I think the grey grout is a bit more of a "look" that does not necessarily go with the style of the floor tile and accent strip.

First, no matter if you go with the grey or white grout .... Be sure to use an "Epoxy Grout". You will NEVER have any problems with "Mold or Mildew". The Epoxy Grout will NOT "Stain" and NEVER needs "Sealing". I have specified it for years in both residential and commercial projects....and I have never seen a problem yet. It is different and it is not like the standard grout that people are describing here that they have had problems with.

The grout color is subjective, as you can see. The grout lines of the subway tile should disappear and blend together with the white tile. I typically like grey grout, but I'm only taking into account the design elements that you have chosen here. With the geometric design your floor and the matching geometric design of the deco liner, the white grout will celebrate those elements and bring some continuity to the floor. The grey grout will only adds more lines and is far too busy with what you have going on.

With all due respect to everybody opinions. I still agree with Jane, Ed, Judy & Sam and they have all said it best. Jane pointed out that the white grout will look more high end. Ed says the grout should disappear into the tile color. Judy also agrees to use epoxy grout. Sam states going with the grey grout is a bit more of a "look" that does not necessarily go with the style of the floor and the accent strip. LOL EVERYONE!

I made up some test panels 12x18 to put both versions of the grout into to get a better idea how the end result may look. Originally I wanted the white grout for the reasons stated by others, cleaner overall appearance, I was thinking the silver in the wall would make it look like it was always dirty and take focus away from the other elements. I will see how the test panels look and then decide. My first instinct was the white from the get-go, but like always the power of suggestion can cause some doubt so that's why I asked for outside opinions. Thanks everybody.

Yay! :) Wyland, is epoxy grout a new technology, or has it been around a long time? Is it much more expensive than other grouts (like the Custom brand grout ) ?

Also, I was wonder all the above Wyland.. Also, if I groove out some of my old white grout on kitchen floor but not all of it could I go over the old stuff with it? If not, what is the best brand of sealer you know. Thanx Or anyone else. Just bleached grout to get it clean and now I am sure it needs to be resealed after that.

I am no contractor but just curious, since I have a shower area I want to redo. Isn't something supposed to be between that dry wall and the stud for a shower/bathroom?

Thanks so much. Grout is the bane of my existence at times with 8 baths in two homes ( I run a b&b) so this is good news. I just removed white subway tile with white grout ( I just don't like it-personally though I know it's popular now) Keeping the white grout clean on that and a kitchen floor has been grueling. I can't wait to try this product. thank you very much.

Follow up - Grout is done, glass guy was here to measure and the glass should be in, in a couple of weeks. Also working on getting the vanity I built installed. It's coming together!

There is a vapor barrier between the drywall and the outside wall, but not on the interior walls. We did do all new drywall in this particular room however, and I used Roxul Safe and Sound in the interior walls to help keep the bathroom noises, in the bathroom.

Not white. Silver or grey. Dark grout will really pop the subway tile and look very designer.

White grout was best - this is a bathroom after all not a kitchen! Great non-chemical way to clean grout - hydrogen peroxide - just pour a little on, let it bubble, when it stops bubbling the work is done, rinse off.

definitely silver. I have it and it is so light that it just compliments the tile. It's a big decision I know but silver is not bold like you might think, very subtle.

so which did you choose? from the pic it's hard to tell cause like I said the silver is so subtle.

I would use a silver grout on this material, not as hard to keep as white but shows the tile to good advantage.

It's looking fabulous! I would have voted silver, but I really like the way the white turned out - great choice. Show us your vanity when it's completely installed!

It has been a few years since this project. I love your shower! I wondered how your white grout has held up.
