If that's not super orange (which it doesn't look to be) I think a dark eggplant would be great! I wouldn't go with a color too cool, so anything with a violet base (a violet-based blue or a purple, or obviously a red) would be very interesting. But I like a bright house, not everyone does! :)

Assumming you like the orange of the brick, I agree blue siding would be nice and would work well with the pictured shingle color too. Blues and purples do make oranges look more orange since they are opposite each other in the color wheel but the combo. does look nice in the inspiration pic.

I would suggest pale grey siding and white trim while keeping the black shutters. For the roof, I would suggest pale to medium grey to complete the color scheme.

I would lean toward the photo you posted of just the siding (more gray than blue).

The craftsman style references would be difficult to replicate because the entire height of the first floor is thoroughly brick; kind of committing the house to a more colonial style. For example, there are a few components on the first floor, like the bay window (beyond the window trim) and the transom above the back sliding door, which aren't exactly trim pieces and would be colored in (or surrounded by color on at least three sides) on a craftsman. But it would look weird in this case as anything but white, because they are isolated from the rest of the siding.

But then there are areas, like directly above the garage door, which, despite being isolated from the rest of the siding, seem to be calling out for matching color.

A lighter, less saturated gray, maybe with a hint of brown, would tame the contrast between siding and brick and help bridge the look of the two halves; so that the lower half and upper half don't seem like two separate styles.

Certainly, here are a few alternate shades of gray and I added one with a blue hue as well.
