Get a bracket and mount your TV directly to the wall. Then you need much less cabinet to hold the cable box and the Blue Ray etc. Also give you the opportunity to install a sound bar directly below the screen.

You can turn the TV location into a feature wall with a contrasting color.

You can have the shelf/cabinet blend with the wall.

You can purchase a painted sideboard and mount the TV and sound bar over that.

Task solved. We have located a hardwood stand that suits us both. It is a naturally, lightly distressed, white, twin sliding shutter door stand. Thanks everyone for the help.
