Wax Jambu Question

I planted this Wax Jambu a few years back. While in the pot, it was fruiting, but now in the ground, it did not even make any attempt to flower.

The strange thing is one of its branches grows quicker than the others. I thought it was the central trunk, so I trained it to go upward, but looking at it now, I'm not sure if it's the central trunk or is it one of its branches. So, is it a good idea to tip it off so it looks more balanced with the rest of the branches and then just let it go whichever way it wants?

The rest of the plant is about 4-5 ft, but the middle branch has grown to at least 10 ft tall now.

Looking from another angle: The "central trunk" to the right. The question is whether is this really the central trunk, or is it another branch? Should I trim it off to the same height as the others?

Would appreciate any advice/feedback you have for me.

I'd greatly appreciate any advice you have for me about this tree. I'm thinking of cutting off the long stem that is sticking way high up.

If you have a Wax Jambu and would like to share about your experience with it, that would be cool too :)

I heard the fruit is touted to have some nutritional and healing properties .. will have to go back and read about it again.

darn. my post was accidentally edited over.

i have 3 container black diamond wax Jambu since this winter. they all have lateral growths, one even has 5 flowers. in surprised that your Jambu has this single branch that is growing so fast without lateral growths.

I'm not a Jambu expert, but id imagine that if that branch set fruit it would bend and possibly even break.

btw how much sunlight is it getting?

Glad to hear that one of your Jambus has got flowers already! That's really exciting. I remember when my fruited, I was so excited to see the pink fruit plumbing up. Now, I'll have to just dream about them. I think this is the time they should be doing their thing. Hope to see more updates of your fruiting tree.

You definitely are right to say that a branch that grows so tall up is likely to cause problem than of any help to the development of the tree. I think I'll just go ahead to tip that branch off. Probably by doing so, it can promote some lateral growth for next year's fruit production (hopefully). That said, I don't know if it fruits more than once a year, although I haven't seen it doing that in the past before.

Today, I was going to trim down my Wax Jambu, but to my surprise, that long branch has already started to form at least 4 bunches of flower buds. I couldn't bear to see the flower buds go. Oh well, I decided to let them bloom, but not without bracing them with strings toward the fence behind, so it doesn't flop over as the fruit grows.

I'll update with pictures when the bloom buds start to open--keeping my fingers crossed now.

I think you may be making the same mistake that I did. It looks like you have a stake supporting the tree. This will cause the tree to shoot up a branch just like the one you got, but will also create a weak trunk that will snap the tree. I ended up cutting off the long branch and removing all stakes. The newly pugged jambu is now 11 feet high and very bushy with a strong trunk. No flowers yet though darn it.
