Help with work office decoration

Hi! I have moved to a new office space and need advice in how I can transform my space so it's not so drab and sad looking...I have space above the cabinet and also can do something with the very dark black pin board. Any ideas or suggestions, pictures, items are greatly appreciated! Right now the only decorative items I have is my mouse pad with my dog's picture and a family photo card. Don't know how to start, with a color or theme? The room is dry and cold with no windows so any plants suggestion is welcomed too! Easy to maintain or obtain kind please...thank you so m ch in advance! Also, don't want too much clutter since the space is already pretty tight but something that'll add character and style would be lovely. :)

First figure out attractive storage so you can free up as much space on (and under) your desk as possible. Think outside the box -- a vintage tin for paper clips, a cool bowl for pens, etc. One trick I like for sterile office spaces is to bring in a nice lamp (NOT a standard office lamp), a cozy throw on the back of the chair and a colorful rug. You have space on top of your overhead storage unit for baskets, pottery, or some other personal items that reflect your personality. Can your replace the dry erase board? If so, artwork or a mirror would be a good addition.

I wouldn't bother with plants unless you're willing to replace them regularly -- nothing will thrive there without natural light.

Get a stainless steel bar under the cabinets and hang stainless containers for pens, paper clips and file holders to get everything of the desk. IKEA has these items.
I would paint the walls as on my screen they appear kind of salmony. I would do a greyish white to go with the accent wall,floor and cabinets. If you are game, paint the desk turquoise.

I added an in door plant in a simple silver container and got some geometric patterned fabric to cover the black pin board behind my monitor. Thanks for all the great tips! Will keep going transforming my work space...

Got the pin board fabric up! Thinking what else to add...will tackle inside the cabinets and drawers next!
