What a lovely rustic piece! What size is your tv and what will be the distance between the tv and seating?

Great cabinet!

50 " is too high to put the television on top. You could secure the cabinet to the wall and use a either a shelf or mounting bracket inside the cabinet for the television. The bottom of the screen should be about 25" to 30" above the floor if you are watching from a sofa. The television should be at a height that is comfortable for viewing the center of the screen looking straight on while seated.

32" flat screen. the room is a pretty large two story great room. sofa will be 8-10 ft back. i want to either put it on top or attach to wall just above the cabinet. thoughts?

Actually, the tv is 40".

The television will look great above but you may suffer from neck strain by looking up. Try it for a a week with the TV stand on top of the cabinet before mounting to see if you are comfortable watching at that height. If you choose to use the TV inside the cabinet you can always use art, a mirror or rustic sculptural accessories above the cabinet to add height to the room.

Great cabinet, but a tv on top of it would detract from it.

If you do put it on the top of the cabinet, even for a day, secure it to a wall. You don't want it to far on someone.

Keep the cabinet, it's great! But, find another cabinet that is shorter and wider for your 40" tv. If you want "perfect" for tv viewing.

I love cabinet. But 50" TV is too big for it.

How wide is the cabinet and how wide (versus the diagonal) is the TV? Might you also have a picture of the space where it will be? Regarding the height, TV viewing is a matter of personal preference. TV's above fireplaces are often 50-58" high to the bottom. I like that you'll be sitting 8-10" away.

Your cabinet is charming, but it's too high for a TV above it. You could easily put the TV to the side of it and have your other components inside the cabinet, or you could use it in a bedroom.

Great cabinet, just not the right size for what you want to use it for. Looks like a great place to store dvds though.

One should never have to tilt the head back to watch something, including a computer screen. Bad for the neck !!!
