No, I've not heard of this, but you can have her behind shaved a little to keep "it" from catching in the fur if that is happening.

Socks, I've done an internet search. It looked like it was mostly due to the kitten not having diarrhea or impacted anal glands and not cleaning, but since she doesn't have diarrhea nor anal gland problems, there really shouldn't be much to clean? It is a constant stench, smells like when you walk into a barn with animal dung, blech. The shaving idea is interesting, that might be something to try. Thank you.

Does your kitten have gas? My cat has horrible gas if I feed her beef flavored cat food. It can clear a room

Is she long hair? I've had to trim my cats hair around his butt. Otherwise stuff gets stuck. I've also used a peri bottle (those bottles they give you in the hospital after you give birth to wash all the blood off you know where) to squirt water onto his butt. We do it outside.

No, she is short-haired, lots of thick fur, but not long. I am really hoping it's just a hygiene problem she will outgrow.

You brought back a memory. When my now 17 year old cat was a baby and teenager she never cleaned her butt! We fondly called her "Rosebutt" because she smelled a lot. Her brother was the opposite--he always kept meticulously clean. I made sure to wipe her every day, and she eventually caught on. My girl is a short hair too. So I think she may just need some help for awhile.

You could try hairball remedy gel, that way she'd also be able to pass all the fur she would be licking off her general butt region instead of coughing it up into someone's shoe or on the carpet next to the bed. And it shouldn't cause any explosive-booty-leakage like butter might.

And they have pet wipes for dogs and cats who refuse to get anywhere near a basin of water for a bath, but I would not advise regular baby wipes used on human baby butts, they would contain ingredients and chemicals that would be very bad for a cat - they ingest it when grooming themselves.

Thanks Jennifer D., that's a good idea. She has actually improved a lot, she cleans a lot more frequently and thoroughly and is not so stinky anymore. Hopefully her hygiene will be perfect by the time she outgrows kittenhood. Agree about the babywipes, not good for kitties to ingest.
