very hard to offer suggestions other that adding some color (I don't think it's a bandaid) and an option would be to see the larger spaces of the room to see where you might add art or other. Can you take some more photos showing more of the expanse of the room?

I think what you are doing is beautiful its just not done yet. It's still little bare. You need to keep the colors you have and keep building and adding little finds that you love. Texture and layers. My first thought was to get a little table for that nook area in the living, layer the rug with a cow hide, move the cream chairs to flank the fireplace and to get a visually interesting/coordinating sofa to put where the chairs are. But the easiest thing to do, would be to scoot everything closer to the fireplace. Put the blue sofa on the rug and layer something on that coffee table bench thing. Stick with it- you're looking good!

You need several big green live plants!

Your home is beautiful but lacks the interest and warmth plants can add. It will come alive. Think palm, fig or bird of paradise.

I agree...Your designer is doing a gorgeous job..continue with the subtle palette and than throw in a vase of fresh flowers every week...deep fushia peonies...deep blue hydrangeas....bright yellow tulips..it really doesn't take much to add a fresh pop of color to a calm sophisticated space...than you never get tired of one color........I really like the first blue hand knotted rug.

I agree, I don't think you should add in colour, just more lighting and texture in accessories. I think could also add in some more greenery...possibly a fiddly fig which have beautiful leaves.
I am wondering if the stools at your island should be more substantial since your island is large. Not sure if you would want to change them, but stools in a wood tone like your dining table might be a nice addition to your room.

Beautiful home with wonderful architectural details. I'd prefer a lot more color and pattern in my own home, in curtain panels, rugs, furniture, and paint. If you requested a neutral palette, your designer has definitely fulfilled your wishes!

Wait until your designer is done! Then talk about what to add. And tell them your concerns about homey, vs formal. You may have fallen into the trap of wanting the perfectly designed room, (who doesn't?) but really needing something that's more livable for you. This beautiful room may be too "designed" and not enough YOU. Talk with your designer.

Designers all work differently. Design work is fluid especially at the end when accessories and art are involved.

And worse, this client is second guessing her designer's recommendations after her designer has done a first class job for her so far. Let's not undermine this designer's work.

I really love the second one...seems to have lots of texture...but they are both very pretty I don't think you can go wrong...one thing I have realized with images from home owners on house it can look much different that what we see...was at a new Houzz clients home today and her sofa was a beautiful tan but on Houzz looked very gold! So go with your gut!

Frutta, they are both equally very nice... you can't go wrong with either..... number one seems to have some vintage distress look (which is NOT a bad thing) vs the other however hard to tell as the photos are small....

I am confused. If you hired and are paying a designer to design your interiors then ask her which rug to use. You should be a team. Did she suggest you turn to Houzz to second guess her?

Your home is beautiful. Agree on adding visual interest opposed to adding random pops of color. When a person walks into a room, their eyes are naturally drawn to objects at eye level. I would start off with adding unique sconces on either side of the window near your round table. To add a touch of color, try some sort of gold or brass color (not polished). Mixed material is in style right now and would satisfy the request your have made. Adding artwork is fun but can be challenging. Some ideas of sconces that would work for your space is below.

The second picture with the lamp needs a few changes. I think your wall needs a dark color. I think navy blue will spark up the place a lot more.

I would suggest finding a color that you like and finding as many accessories as you can and sprinkle them around. Also you should consider finding curtain panels with the similar if not the same color. The panels can have just a hint of the color as well. Just start of with a few items preferably on a medium to large scale. When you have some key pieces like the panels, vases and wall art you can move on to table top accessories and etc...I suggest a shade of blues more like the royals. Also I wouldn't use anymore grays and beige and undertones.

I am going to repeat that you should trust your designer. She is in a much better position to help than people who can only see photos of the room. Plus she has done a stellar job so far. Here you're just getting a bunch of random advice and you're liable to turn this space into a hash if you listen to comments on this thread.

Perhaps you need to give your designer more direction. If there's something you don't like or you want more color, TELL HER.

Ditto what the others have said. Your space is SO beautiful, and your designer has done an amazing job so far. I'm looking forward to seeing what she recommends for lighting in the living area, because lamps will make a big difference. :)
