Young peach tree help.

I have a young peach tree that we planted 2 years ago. We noticed today that some of the lower leaves have died, and it looks like the base of the trunk was damaged and is now oozing gel. Is this serious damage or can i do something to heal her? I am really scared for my tree! This is the first year it is bearing fruit!!! Any advice is greatly appreciated! --steph in Kentucky
