Hi Dytecture, what do you mean by multi-tiered? Sorry Brenda, I don't have any at this time. Yes the cabinet would be the same colour , it's wengue and the granite is Baltic brown.

have you thought about changing the counter material on the island? something like walnut butcherblock might look nice with the baltic brown granite.

by "multi-teired" I believe that Dytecture was suggesting that you make some of your island counter height and some of it bar height (or table height). not always an options though, and probably not what you are looking for.

Most granite slabs are approximately 70" x 120". So you want your island to be 90" wide? That will be a very large island. If I am misunderstanding you, can you try to locate another slab that fits the dimensions that you desire? Baltic Brown is a pretty common color. Or, you could choose a completely different color that compliments the baltic brown.

Hi Thank you so much for all your suggestions. It is 90 cm not inches and the slab we have that is available is only 60 cm. We have very limited resources of granite thus the problem too. Yes, I'm not very keen on having 2 counter heights since I need the space to work on .

Hi Stoneshop any suggestion to compliment the baltic brown, would a reconstituted stone work well with granite since they are bigger in width and a slab would fit in a 90 cm benchtop.

Oh I am sorry, sid62! I must have misread the cm for inches.

When you say "reconstituted" stone are you referring to an engineered stone, such as a quartz material? Where we are located, in New Jersey, the granite slabs actually tend to be larger in size than a quartz slab. To compliment the Baltic Brown, I would look for something lighter that has some brown/tan/black streaks running through it. Possibly Colonial Cream, Colonial Gold, Persia Avorio, Golden Beach, or even Taj Mahal quartzite.

To follow up, does anyone have any suggestion for the back splash as I will now have 2 colors of countertops and different materials too. If anyone can send me a photo, that would be great. Also , I am wondering if I have the countertops along the wall in Baltic brown, can I have a totally different back splash or do I have to place a strip of the Baltic brown around it first, if so how big?hope I am not confusing you ..?.??

I'm sorry stoneshop, I forgot answer your question. Yes they are like caesarstone, must be quartz.?very commonly used now .

I would not pick the back splash until you have nailed down your island material. You have gotten some good suggestions. I definitely don't think you need to put in any granite back splash first if you are doing a tile, mosaic, etc. I think you will need to keep the back splash fairly neutral so as not to compete with the countertops, but you can bring in the countertop materials/colors into the back splash as an accent.

Yes, quartz materials are growing in popularity. However, granite generally tends to be the more affordable option.

I agree with JDM Countertops and would not select your backsplash until your countertop choice is finalized. Don't drive yourself crazy trying to figure out too many things at once. Sometimes, we even encourage our clients to wait until after the countertops are installed to even begin thinking about your backsplash. This way, you can bring tile samples home to look at in your own lighting with the countertops already in place.

Hi sid62, are you asking if you do put in some granite splash, how high it should be? If that's the case, a standard splash height is 4". If you do tile of any type, sometimes putting this in before can just make the tile look like an after thought. You can put it in if you plan on living with it for a while before you decide on the other materials, and then tear it out.

What I was suggesting earlier is that you can incorporate Baltic Brown (in tile form) or those colors into the back splash as an accent (dots, liner, mosaic pieces, etc). I hope I'm making sense or helping....

Hi JdM, yes it does makes sense, thank you. I did wonder if I will not use Baltic brown as splash all over the wall where the canopy rangehood will be and the rest of the areas that if ever there is another option and just to bring in Baltic brown as you said 4 inches up.

Oh just so not to confuse you, the Baltic brown here only comes in 60 cm width slab . I am in Asia. So it's really limited, I do not like the idea of having it joined on the wall where the canopy range hood will be, so I thought of putting another type of tile. Quite complicated.
