I think that fireplace would be great. I think your furniture is too big.

The fireplace in the link is quite modern, but it could work for you if you are planning to replace your sofa set. Your current tables are modern, so adding some modern or abstract art and simple window treatments would move you in that direction, and when you replace your sofas, look for more sleek pieces with narrower arms and backs.

HI -- The fireplace would be wonderful for that room. I am not a fan of your furniture sorry to say .... it's too big and dark and matchy and more suited for a family room or a rumpus room or it looks like it is really for a theater / media room.

It's beautiful but if you're planning on keeping the tv in that room the sofa would have to layout differently

yeah, I know the sofa's are big, that's why we like them because they recline and are super comfy. But it's not a must for them to stay in that room, the remodel is more a prep for selling the house, we might be out of the house by the time we sell it, or we can move the furniture in the living which is empty at this moment...

I forgot to mention that we have carpet on the floor, so we will have to put some of the tile on the floor in front of the fireplace. Would that change the look significantly?

As an upgrade for re-sale ...the new fireplace will be a real plus..you furniture will work if there were less pieces in that room...and maybe a slightly raised hearth would look better than just a transition from carpet to tile...

Would defiantly be a nice upgrade to the living room but IMO you should install the tile vertically rather than horizontally, it would make the ceiling look higher.

Oana, if it's done by a proffesional tile setter it will be a straight forward job. Here is a recent job we did (before and after). It's a 3D tile with a vertical pattern.

I know that the job is not very complicated, it's just tile. But I can't seem to find tile and mantel similar to the picture. I think the mantel and the horizontal pattern of the tile help a lot ...

One other consideration..if you make the fireplace and mantel wide enough to accommodate the tv ....in view of the oversized tv and furniture it would simplify the layout of the room...lastly...unless you can keep the cost down it may not be the best way to spend your money to recover your investment in the re-sale...I would consider all the options....if this is your only reason for the change

That is what I was thinking, removing the existing mantle and tile and putting in tile is no a big deal, so the cost shouldn't be too high. But if I have to raise the hearth I think that would be way higher. We thought of putting the TV above the fireplace, but it can't be done, because there is no safe way to get the TV cable there from behind the TV, and I don't like cable running on the wall...

yeah, I know, our remodel will start the soonest in the fall, so now I am gathering Ideas and sending them to my contractor to see how feasible they are budget wise.

As to the cable...that is usually solved by running it inside the wall...

We wanted that, so we called the comcast guy to create an outlet above the fireplace or near it. He can't do it because of the fireplace and because the roof's slope is behind the fireplace...

Too bad...but I would not expect Comcast to be the one to do this...I would ask an electrician...
