either do the same wood or do a tile in the kitchen. two different hardwoods that join each other do not look good. would be the same if you did wood look tile and hardwood. if you have orig oak or pine, then get the same width and have them all the stained the same. personally I like something different in the kitchen unless its a huge open layout where the kitchen is part of the living space.
