Thermal Sanitize and Strep

Yep my boys have strep throat again. As some of you know I'm not a fan of chlorine bleach. Any of you know at what water temp strep is killed? I know my machine gets into the high 150'sF but question if this is hot enough. I wouldn't be so picky if it was me or hubs with the strep, but kids with their sneezing, coughing, and drooling on the bedding in their sleep is a ddifferent story. This is the type of infection I always reserved chlorine for, but if I can get out of using it..all the bettter.

And yes I know a good long hot wash will reduce the germs enough, but enough isn't always good enough for me. Lol

I do suppose though that after going in the dryer, but I don't over dry things, I do iron bedding and the hot iron should kill off anything remaining....so I just talked myself thru this. Lol

Hi Mama! Can't answer about the temps really. You would want not only the bedding to be sanitized but I would think the machine also. With your hubs condition, if it were me personally, I would opt for LCB. While he may not come into close enough contact with the boys, I would opt for overkill. Just my 2 cents worth. Hope they get over it quickly. Hope i'm not out of line, here.

Course your not out of line sweety...Thank You Bea....I suppose I should just do a chlorine bath and be done with it. I'm really fairly anal about strep since my adult had strep misdiagnosed as a child that led to heart valve issues. So I tend to go overboard with caution...I prefer to change the bedding every other day during the first 5 days of treatment than daily the last 5 days..haha...and toothbrushes....I was given several cases of children sized toothbrushes so I have hundreds..during illness like this its a new brush for each brushing..I call them the sick disposable brushes...each brush came with a single dose of toothpaste..I throw the other tubes of paste out and the boys toothbrushes and on day 10 of treatment they get a new real toothbrush and new tube of paste. Biggest way to reinfect yourself with strep is using the old toothbrush.

Expect you have the doorknobs, handles and other surfaces all wiped down with alcohol or the 1/4 bleach solution. Also toothbrushes -- so easy to overlook. There are several articles on this around on the web. I'd use them as a checklist just to be sure you catch all the hard to remember places (like TV remote or game consoles LOL). So sorry about this mamap. You don't need more strep!

You will need the bleach or a non chlorine quat. As much as you dislike it, with the health issues you discuss, it should be part if your normal wash regime anyway. Just sayin....

Roc..yep I'm armed with my spray bottle of Alcohol. .lol.

Sin, I only really turn more aggressive with bacterial infections. I have always reserved use of chlorine for these times and if you remember other posts of mine I always use chlorine during bacterial inf. In the house. I'm not anti bleach for things like this lol....but I do turn weird feeling like bedding needs washed daily during strep. Haha and I'm not bleaching daily.
