Can you post a picture off the panel? I find it much easier to design when I'm working with a panel.

What a cute quilt. I think I would outline around the deer, then follow the slope of the HSTs to make a cross hatch in the rest of the center. For a binding, I would either use the cream to match the background, or scraps of the HSTs to make a scrappy one.

I'd use a backing that would be her colors. That way the quilt would have your cheerful front and her peaceful back.

It's charming, I like it a lot. I agree w/ suggestion above to repeat slope of diagonal of HST w/ quilting in the inner area surrounding the deer. I'd quilt the same diagonals at the HSTs.

(While I agree that backing in the Mother's grey & beige might have been nice, the pix show BeTeacher's already picked a small print as the backing.

I think cream binding would get dirty, I'd go w/ binding in the darkest gray from the print or the darkest blue of HST (would also match the backing).

But it's so nicely combined btwn the Deer panel, the surrounding HSTs & the calm, subtle print on the back that WHATEVER you do will be lovely.

Lurker here. I don't think that is too bright or colorful. I think it's serene and beautiful and she'll love it. I think it will be a perfect focal point without being, I don't know, jarring or overpowering. I love it and so will she.

And if you add a border I'd do a cream, maybe 2 or 3 inches and dark gray binding. I think it reinforces and respects her color choices for her nursery. The cream will be soothing and float the HST and the deer. The Gray will clean up well and frame the quilt.
