Bead board and trim island questions....

I'm looking at designing my island like the the bead board island in the bottom of this photo.

How thick do you feel the vertical and horizontal trim pieces should be to look good? Any recommendations for what time of wood to get for this or where to buy it?. I will be painting it?

How thick is the bead board typically and is there a 'style' or 'type' of bead board that tends to look best?

Do you think this type of bead board island will get dated quickly or is it kinda a "timeless" look?

Beadboard is not a trendy look. I consider it a classic, it's been around a long time. I love it, especially where I live (coastal)... I only have it in one of my baths (white), guests usually comment on it telling me how much they like it.

the trim should be at least 4" wide. because you will need to put an electric outlet by code depending on your state. It also looks more impressive when you make the trim wider.

If you are going to paint the island - Home depot sells beadboard 3/8 thick.

beadboard is definitely NOT timeless. if you are planing to sell house down the line than i recomend going with flat stock.

Btw, beadboard was used extensively in the early 1800's on .....& is still used where I live today, so I would consider it "timeless".

You can not put the required electrical receptacle under a 6" overhang anyway. It would need to go on the end, close to the working side of the island. And putting a receptacle on the trim just makes it stand out more.

You have to explain what your skill level and what tools you have access to before anybody can make any recommendations.

The same trim can be installed without the bead board with using a plain board.
