Absolutely nothing wrong with the plant that getting it into the ground won't cure :-)) When roots start coming through drainage holes, that's a pretty good sign it is potbound.........

If the roots are starting to come through the bottom I would either up-pot it to a larger pot, or as suggested plant it in the ground.

Thanks! Since I'm in Tx, it was suggested I keep it in a pot for a year or two to make sure I've got the best location for it so I'll plant her in a #2 for now. I really appreciate your help! You will find it helpful to put a saucer or plastic pot saucer underneath the pot. That way, the water will be soaked up by the hosta rather than just running through the pot and out the holes. You can fill the saucer and check every 15 minutes to see how much the plant has soaked up. When it stops soaking it up quickly, empty the saucer. You might be surprised by how much water one hosta can soak up in an hour!

Thank you Heather! Reading other posts on this blog...many advize to rinse the old soil off before repotting. I'm assuming it would be ok to circle a little? Do I do the same with this larger established plant during this time of year (here, temps already reaching mid 80's to low 90's...today's high is predicted to be 90)? I've read of some having transplant shock, etc. Another question ...what if there are a few of the roots (when straightened) are much longer than the next size pot? Thanks again.

If you go just the next size up, it should be fine.
