Paint it something other than the depressing taupe (a light cream would go better with the floor and the furniture), get a proper bed and bedside tables, possibly rearrange (put bed on long wall) IF there is enough room. Very hard to tell without a floor plan.

Fabric shades in the windows would add a nice designer touch to the room and fill in some of the empty space above the bed.

Get an actual bed (looks like you just have a mattress on the floor?) and a rug. Lighter paint on the walls. What does the rest of the room look like?

1. Rearrange. Turn the bed 90 degrees. Keep the nightstand next to bed. Move the tall dresser away from the bed.

2. Paint. This week is a sale week for paint. Buy your primer and paint now. Greyish blue would look good with the floors. Or a creamy white.

3. Get the bed off the floor. If you have a low budget, build a platform.

There are a lot of other very inexpensive changes once you commit to making updates.

Get a bed. Get curtains. Get a chair.

First thing I would do is post a picture of the offending bedroom.
