Compare to star of Bethlehem, Ornithogalum umbellatum.

That looks like the one. I hope it survives and spreads as it chose a rather sunny spot in the garden. Wiki says it likes moisture though drought tolerant and semi shade.

Oh my, that is interesting. I think I will dig it up now. The last thing I need is another quick spreading plant. I have a yellow meconopsis that, while lovely at this time of year, produces thousand of seeds and I now have the yearly task of thinning the hoard.

Yep, that's the prolific SOB. It would be a bit less of an issue if it would cross with some other colors, but in my garden they are all yellow. Is that just the dominant color? Or is there a way to get it cross and show more variety?

Also comes in orange. One of the more recent Herons-wood seasonal e-mails Dan Hinkley writes and sends out, featuring plants of interest at the time said the Welsh poppy has been split off from Meconopsis. So that may be why there is no widely known or mentioned history of crossing it with the others - they aren't actually that closely related.

Now considered more properly in with the papavers according to DNA analysis (Papaver cambricum), where Linnaeus had placed it originally. I had both the yellow and orange colors in my Shoreline garden, originally arriving as a hitchhiking plant (or seeds) with some pass-along plants given to me by one of my mom's Arboretum gardening buddies. I disliked it intensely and fought endlessly to eradicate it......to no avail.

'Perry's Orange' is a nice shade and comes true.
