Before you jump into this check for fire ratings of various materials and woods. Sophie is right, combustible materials are not the go to for a grill surround, but if you want to use wood check out ipe wood which is rated class A. Just beware, ALL wood burns. I am notorious for wild fires in my grill, do not clean it like I should, hence I grill away from everything!
