2017 update on modest kitchen reveal that started in2013

After almost 30 years of living in a house built in 1875,,with an addition in 1920....and raising 4 kids and working...we finally improved the kitchen. Tore out and replaced old cabinets, removed 3 layers of asbestos flooring

(had them removed), had the 1875 floor sanded down, painted makeshift woodwork that had been added at some point, and this week in 2017 had a back-splash and pantry added!

So pretty and refreshing! Especially like the Demi-shutters, the lighting, tiling the chase in the corner (bonus: nothing gets shoved back where you can't reach).

Are those Carl Larsson prints in the nook?

One is , but the other is signed Lisi. Thank you!

The one inthe left is Lisi? Lisi Martin is Spanish and her work does kind of look like Larsson. Trisha Romance in Ontario also evokes the same feeling.

Thank you for the info on Lisi Martin, bpathome! The pictures went so well together when I got them framed years ago when my daughters, a red head and a blonde, were little.

One more question...the refrigerator and dishwasher will need to be replaced soon....would you recommend sticking with white appliance, combo of white and stainless steel , or just stainless steel? (the stove and microwave are white ice...)

    Thanks so much!!!

    Beautiful

Glass cab over the microwave-genius idea actually..will have to share with one of my friends, she plans to redo her kitchen soon, and says the only place for microwave to go is over the range..yours is the best combo I ever saw..looking so much lighter.

Love the light. Love the window.

    Love the bear:)

Answering your question about appliances-I'd stick with white-looks great now, will continue to work great later I believe

(never saw this white ice before-looks cool)

I'd say white. Certainly for the dishwasher. Could you do a panel-ready DW to match the cabinets?

What a cute space! I love the wall color, the light fixture, and I'm really liking your shutters. We're trying to decide what to put in our counter-height window on our sink wall. Our backsplash is 1/2" Fireclay thin brick and goes it into the window bump out (11") and up 18", which changes the width from the top to bottom an inch overall; 94" at the top and 93" for the lower 18". We are leaning towards window film, because it would stop UV and cut the solar heat, and it's somewhat reflective on the exterior, which would offer some privacy. Now I'm wondering about adding shutters to the lower 18", because yours looks so nice.

I agree with aprilneverends and bpathome on sticking with white appliances if it's an option; it really works for this kitchen. And that glass cabinet over the MW is fantastic. It adds sparkle and lightness - nice move!
