I Made Out Like a Bandit Today...

Went to Son's house today, (Grandson's B-Day party). My DIL's Mom brought me 11 packed-so-heavy-could-hardly-lift Walmart totes FULL of cotton fabric!!! Brand new!! Every color and pattern you can imagine. She gave me about that much a couple of years ago. I told her that when she retires she is going to regret it but she insisted. So I told her if she or my DIL ever needs any to come shop my closet. Now I'm wondering where I'm going to store it since my closet is bustin'. If I find there is stuff I can't store and can do without I might contact a local guild to see if they need some for charity quilts. Might start doing some charity sewing with too.

OH, the sorting is done and now I can get back to my quilt. I wound up having to buy more bins because my closet shelves are now full. I filled one large tote bin with nothing but polka dots, one with stripes, checks and plaids, and one with solids. Then I filled 2 of the shorter ones with "smalls". And they are all in order color-wise. The only problem is the only place I had to put the bins was in the middle of the closet between the shelves where the full cut pieces are and to see those well I'll have to drag out the bins in the middle. And this is not counting the full sized bins I filled not long ago with scraps, they are on the other side of the room. With all these scraps and smalls I'll probably never get to the full cuts. What I should do between quilt projects is to get out some of this and start doing some pieced backings so that I can have them available when I need one.

Way to go, Rita!!! You could store some at my house if need be but I may not be able to find it when you wanted it back. lol Quilts for donation will use it up quickly.

You can get a lot of stuff in a relatively small space. :)

Glassquilt that looks lovely but I doubt I could afford it. Sharon and Donna, you're welcome to come and raid my stash any time you want to drive down. Well, I worked on it about 3 hours last night, about 6 hours today. I sorted it in color families first, then I separated out the solids and sorted them. Then I separated the big cuts from what I call "smalls" - eighth and quarter yards and smaller. Then there were so many polka dots and stripes I put them in separate piles. But this was also going through my existing stash and doing the same thing and melding the two groups together. But I didn't get to the top shelf in the closet yet, my back is screaming at me. The top shelf has really huge cuts of fabric, some decorator type fabric and all the browns, tans, beige and blacks on it so that's going to be a job. I also want to brush up on Bonnie Hunter's scrap system for the smalls. I guess I'm gonna be busy for awhile! Not to mention I've started another quilt. Does anyone know where a person can get cloned??

Seriously, Rita, When you get through all of the fabric and decide you really do want to donate some of it, let me know and we'll drive down. No hurry, I have things to finish and then planning on going up north for a bit this summer...finally. :-)

I sure will, Bev. My sister has moved closer and now lives in Bolingbrook. There are no plans yet, but you're right on the way. :-)
