It really depends on if you can afford to take time off work to manage the work. From getting the quotes to being home when the trades are there it can be time consuming. If not, then it is good to out source.

Im located in Brisbane QLD - good point about taking time off from work..

If you use one builder to coordinate, then then the individual trades cannot blame each other when thing don't go to plan or stuff up.

Hiring all the trades- will mean multiple quotes (x3) per trade, then supervising them.

Think in terms of moving a door way. 1. Demo (you??) 2. Electrician to check/terminate/move power 3. Carpenter 4. Gyprocker to repair 5. Painter (you??). 6. Floor repair of new opening.

Just use a builder. They know the cost's and good tradespeople.

They'll also organise when they're all coming through.

Unless you're well versed in construction and have ample time to organise job's and quote's why bother. The saving's are limited if any otherwise.

Spend your time locating a good honest builder otherwise you'll go nut's and just pull your hair out!
