Bedroom update

last modified: 13 years ago
So far all the help that I have gotten on here has been so helpful so I am here for more.
This is a new paint job........
I am definitely getting a new bed, lamps, décor.
I would like to keep the dresser by painting it out.
My daughters picture will be reframed and want it to stay in the room, hoping in the same spot but lower.
Removing the current laminate and using the same bamboo tile in the bedroom..

I understand. The bamboo floor will include a large amount of resin and glue to hold the bamboo grass fibers together. It should hold up pretty well to doggie pee. I would just make sure to clean up quickly because it could change the color of the floor.

    The bamboo us actually tile

What is your take on the pendant and do you think the one tone comforter is okay without bringing in the other colors.

The floral would look good as curtains. I like the light on the left. What would you think of the table lamps on your bureau? Yes to the side tables!!
I am going to order the bed and the end table on the right.

Ok the floral is actual the bed sheet set, if that is what you are talking about.
    Which lights and what picture.
The larger floral is actual a rug

    Didn't come through.

Ok let me know what you thin, going tomorrow to order bed, nightstand and dresser. Do you also think that any of these fabrics could make curtains.

Night studio and overstock has a sale on rugs now, do you think that I should go with the neutral rug.
Angela, could you post just your fabric choices with your sheet set and the wall color? I would actually recommend you match your curtains to the wall, since your room looks rather small, it will help to make it look more spacious.

Nancy, so far I found a sheet set and a blanket, I think that I might be trying to put too much color

Just checking in briefly today. From a purely practical angle, large area rugs in small rooms end up mostly under the bed, and are a total pain to vacuum because thee is so little room to maneuver, so I'm not a big fan, even though they look swell in photos. Re curtains: I like the idea of a med. print w a looser feel, or something plainer w a cream background to highlight the area. (Someone posted a cream and orange silk horizontal the other day that made me think of you, but heaven knows where ) I'm not concerned about blending with the wall, because I am going to tell you to take the drapes to the corner, and hang pendant lighting in front. Your photos deserve better placement elsewhere. ( Don't forget to take measurements as you order stuff today).
I agree with the rugs because now I just have them in front of bed so that is a non factor, I really like the hanging pendant and the drapes to the corner. I will work on the placement of the photos as I can put them on the other wall. I will return the curtain and that can wait until the bed gets here.

So on my way to the store shortly and this is where I am at.
The side table you showed in photo w orange bench looks a bit darker wood? If that one is a real option, it looks a bit better to me. Have fun shopping!
The side table on the left or right. The side table on the left is from the same company that sells the bed, the one on the right is from Olio site and the one on the bottom is from the bed company and it is a dresser.
Change 1, the table on left I like is actually a dresser not a night stand because it measures 36 w

Angela, If you decide you want a patterned drape, I would suggest the stripes first, and then the abstract dotty one second. I wouldn't use the bold floral, as I think it would be too much for your room. Maybe a pillow, if you really love it. You certainly do have an eye for color, and what colors coordinate with each other!

Thanks Nancy appreciate you saying that.

So I added in the old nightstand and dresser with the new pieces that I ordered. I think a paint job will clean them nicely. It is finally coming in and while I wait for the bed I can get the floor done.
SO, the dresser is a blessing in disguise!! You need the extra storage, and your other pieces will be easy to paint. You can get them fixed up outside while the floors are being done, and everything will looks spanking new when it comes back. Better money spent, and I adore faux shagreen. Good on you DP!!! When does the tile guy come??
Studio10001-Yes it was and thank God with the special order I only had to put half down for bed and dresser. The funny thing is that I would have never thought to take measurements if you never mentioned it. I will be needing your help with paint as I am not good with stuff like that but I want to learn and this will be fun. I am still trying to decide who to use for tile job but will be using this week to get this iron out, My sister is shipping some stuff to Jamaica the end of month so will wait to do tile them since the room will be empty without the bed. The furniture company says that they will hold the furniture until I am ready at no charge.

If this is new, you may want to start your paint work before then. Your new shopping list:steel wool or 00 sandpaper, 2" paintbrush, foam paintbrushes ( they come in a pack) ebony satin paint. Do you have any ceiling paint? If not, ask a friend for a bit of leftover neutral (white, beige grey) to recolour the wickery bits. Figure 2 days to allow boo-boos and dry time, if you paint straight from the can. (You could try chalk paint w wax, if you're feeling froggy. Allow a few more days for dry time) Do you still have funds for drapery and lighting?
Yes, I can get drapery and lighting as long as I stay within a decent budget. If what is new.

Oh ok got it and yes, I hate painting but I really want to learn how to do it so I will get the stuff and start next weekend. Is that direction for the first phase of painting.
one more shopping item: flood floetrol latex paint additive (home depot has). Ebony is color I'm guessing you want from look of your ideaboard; grab whatever looks good to you.

I got steel wool but no 00 sandpaper instead 180 fine. I got the 2" paintbrush, foam paintbrushes but could not figure out what was ebony satin paint. I did have ceiling paint, beige actually from my bathroom ceiling. I also got the floetrol from Home Depot tonight
  • 13 years ago
What is the ebony satin paint.
Ebony is color from your ideaboard. Get any color you want it to be! Satin means a less shiny finish - get any finish you want it to be.

Got sidetrack this weekend and did not get to start my new painting assignment.
