We just purchased a new home and are in the process of renovations. The office has a dated wainscoting on the walls, which clashes with my husband's large desk. The desk will cover the majority of the wainscoting, but some will show on other walls and may peek through the top of the desk.

We are unsure if it is glued or nailed, we think it maybe both... and to avoid potential additional costs of removing it and having to put up new drywall, are there any other options to make this look clean, sleek, bright, and contemporary? Any tips would be greatly appreciated!
